Equine Stride Smithing

Welcome to our forge of care and craft — where horses come first and good shoeing is both art and tradition. Here, every hoof tells a story, and every client receives a service built on respect, knowledge, and trust.

Who we are

Trained at the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School and backed by years of apprenticeship under a master farrier, Matthew Andrews brings both experience and understanding to every hoof he works on. Serving horses from Barrie to Niagara, we specialize in professional trimming and shoeing rooted in skill, patience, and respect for the animal.

The goal at Equine Stride Smithing is simple — to keep your horse balanced, sound, and comfortable, with a calm approach that makes the process smooth for horse and owner alike.

  • Routine Hoof Trimming and Maintenance: We regularly trim and balance a horse's hooves to maintain proper length, shape, and alignment. This prevents overgrowth, uneven wear, and potential injuries by ensuring the correct biomechanics and weight distribution.

  • Shoeing: We fit and apply horseshoes for protection, support, and traction, especially for working horses, performance horses, or those working on abrasive ground. This involves selecting or shaping commercial shoes, or even forging custom metal or applying modern glue-on composite shoes, to fit the unique needs of each horse.

  • Corrective and Therapeutic Shoeing: Working in collaboration with veterinarians, we design and apply specialized shoes, pads, and other materials to address specific hoof-related issues, injuries, or conformational problems. This can include treatment plans for conditions such as laminitis, navicular syndrome, club feet, and hoof cracks.

  • Hoof Problem Assessment and Repair: We are skilled in identifying and addressing various hoof ailments, such as abscesses, white line disease, and general lameness issues. We may use materials like acrylics and epoxies to rebuild damaged hoof walls.

  • Consultation and Education: We advise horse owners on proper day-to-day hoof care practices, including nutrition and environmental management, to maintain hoof health between professional visits.

What we do

The services at Equine Stride Smithing span the full arc of hoof care, from routine trims that keep a horse moving true to balanced shoeing to support each horse’s needs. Every visit is shaped by experience earned in the forge and in the field: training from Oklahoma, years apprenticed under a master farrier, and a calm, steady hand that reads a horse before lifting a single hoof.

It’s a full spectrum of care, but never a one-size-fits-all approach. Each horse gets what it needs—no more, no less—so it can carry weight, cover distance, and meet the world with sure footing and quiet confidence.
